Say "salt scrub" and most people picture something gritty that leaves skin raw. A salt soap bar can sound like the last thing reactive skin needs. We thought the same, until we made one. Done right, a salt bar is one of the most comfortable washes you can give your skin.
Here's what salt actually does in a bar, and how we keep it kind.
Soft polish, not a scrub
Fine salt gives the lightest exfoliation, just enough to sweep away the dull, flaky surface layer and leave skin feeling smooth. It's nothing like a coarse body scrub. Think soft polish, not sandpaper.
The salts we use (and where they come from)
We don't use plain table salt. Our salt bars are built on mineral-rich salts from three different places:
- French Sea Salt Bar: clean and classic French sea salt.
- Bamboo Salt Bar: calm, spa-like pink Himalayan salt.
- Arctic Breeze: crisp, fresh Canadian Arctic salt.
It's the minerals that make the difference
Table salt is sodium chloride and little else. These salts carry 80+ trace minerals (84+ in the pink Himalayan salt in our Bamboo bar), and that's what turns an ordinary wash into something that actually feels good on your skin. As the bar lathers, those minerals are left behind on your skin instead of rinsing away with the dirt:
- Magnesium leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable, the way it does after a day at the ocean.
- Zinc leaves skin feeling fresh and clean.
- Potassium and calcium leave that conditioned, well-cared-for feel once you towel off.
That mineral-rich lather is why a salt bar can polish and soften at the same time, instead of just scrubbing.
The trick is what surrounds the salt
Salt on its own can feel drying. That's exactly why the rest of the bar matters so much. Ours start with 42%+ olive oil and aloe in every single one; the salt polishes while the oils keep skin soft. You step out feeling clean and comfortable, not tight. Every bar is cold-processed and cured for 30 days. Zero palm oil, zero fillers.
Who salt bars are for
